Context

The Commission was committed to taking a customer-first approach to web design and development. They wanted to provide the best customer service experience possible. The project also needed to take into account that SharePoint was used as the content management system for the public facing website.

The Commission worked with Strategic Project Partners (SPP) to define the basic requirements for the new site and CMS.

Having previously worked with our team and Drupal, SPP recommended using the aGov distribution to get a new site up quickly.

The solutions

Setting out with a very ambitious timeline, Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) wanted the site live within three months.

Using aGov (an open source Drupal distribution developed we for Australian Government organisations) as the basis for the build enabled us to develop the site within this tight timeframe.

Strategic Project Partners (SPP) designed the information architecture. Meanwhile, we produced the visual design.

The project also involved integration work with external QBCC systems such as Licence Search.

In addition to developing the public content, we developed a parallel information architecture for QBCC support and customer service staff. This enabled logged in users to view and search for content not publicly viewable or accessible within the same platform.

The results

The new site was launched at www.qbcc.qld.gov.au in June 2014.

Following that, our team worked with the Queensland Building and Construction Commmission to continually improve the platform, including a visual redesign in mid-2015.
