SysOps Consultancy

Our team provides specialist infrastructure consultancy for government, higher education and enterprise organisations.

We offer deep hands-on experience across AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and the full infrastructure stack. We bring real expertise to every engagement - supported by our Australian and New Zealand-based team.

We work with IT managers, platform engineers, and development teams who need specialist capability they don't have in-house, or support for a specific infrastructure challenge

Project engagements

We work with you on a defined scope, with a clear outcome.

This can be architecture reviews, platform builds, migrations, security uplifts, and remediation work - from a few days for a focused review up to several sprints for a complex build or migration.

Our key services include:

  • Platform architecture reviews - assessing your current or proposed infrastructure ahead of procurement or migration decisions, with clear recommendations your team can act on.
  • Performance issues and incident response - diagnosing and resolving performance problems on existing hosting infrastructure, including reactive support when things go wrong.
  • Kubernetes and AWS environment support - hands-on support for teams building or maintaining their own environments without dedicated SysOps resources.
  • Migration work - planning and executing moves off legacy hosting or between providers, with minimal disruption to live services.
  • Security and compliance uplift - particularly for government clients with specific requirements, including IRAP (Information Security Registered Assessors Program) and ISM (Information Security Manual) compliance.
  • Ongoing operational support - including on-call arrangements, SLA-backed support, and proactive monitoring for live infrastructure platforms.

Ongoing operational support

For organisations without an internal infrastructure team to hand back to, we offer retainer arrangements providing continued access to our SysOps capability.

Retainers typically follow an initial project engagement, and can also be structured as a phased arrangement - from discovery through to long-term support.

Key features:

  • SLA-backed reactive support and on-call arrangements
  • Proactive monitoring and alerting
  • Regular platform health reviews
  • Scalable to your budget, capacity, and operational requirements
  • Responsive support across Australian and New Zealand time zones

Technologies we work with

Our team has extensive hands-on experience across the infrastructure stack used by Australian government and enterprise organisations:

  • Cloud platforms - AWS (our primary platform), with experience in GCP and Azure
  • Infrastructure as code - Extensive experience in deploying applications and infrastructure using Terraform
  • Observability - Prometheus, AWS CloudWatch and New Relic
  • Search and data - OpenSearch and Solr
  • Networking and security - Amazon CloudFront, AWS WAF, Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) networks, Dynamic and Static Application Security tools.
  • Delivery pipelines - Continuous Integration/Deployment pipeline design, optimisation, and support

Custom hosting solutions

We have ample experience designing custom solutions for cloud-native hosting. If your requirements are specific, we can work with you to develop a bespoke platform.

This choice suits websites of all sizes that require unique treatment and considers existing technologies, traffic and speed.

FAQ

What types of SysOps consultancy does PreviousNext offer?

Project-based and retainer engagements. Project work includes architecture reviews, platform builds, migrations, incident response, and security and compliance uplift. Retainer arrangements provide ongoing SLA-backed support and proactive monitoring.

How long does a typical SysOps engagement take?

A targeted architecture review can be completed in a few days. Platform builds, migrations, and complex remediation work typically run for several weeks. Retainer arrangements are structured monthly and can continue for as long as needed.

Do you work with government agencies and their compliance requirements?

Yes. We have direct experience with IRAP and ISM compliance, and familiarity with Australian government security clearance frameworks for restricted or sensitive engagements.

Can you support infrastructure that isn't Drupal?

Yes. While we have particular depth in infrastructure optimised for Drupal at scale, our SysOps consultancy extends to any platform or stack across AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, GCP, and Azure.

What happens at the end of a project engagement?

We document what was built or changed and hand that back to your team with enough context to take ownership. If you don't have an internal team to hand back to, we can discuss a retainer arrangement.
